If you follow wholistic health trends, you may have noticed CBD oil is gaining popularity, and for good reason. Its proven health benefits run the gamut. From being a natural pain relief alternative to alleviating anxiety and treating acne, CBD oil is does it all (well, almost).

But there’s been quite a bit of controversy and confusion surrounding CBD oil. You see, it’s often extracted from marijuana plants which leads some people to wonder…

If it comes from marijuana, shouldn’t it get you high?

The answer is no. Just because it comes from marijuana does not mean it’s anything like the recreational drug.

Here’s the difference: pot is a plant that has both CBD and THC, which is the compound that is known for its mind-altering “high,” whereas CBD (cannabidiol) does not give you the psychoactive effect. In other words, you won’t get the munchies, uncontrollable giggles and a buzz just from using CBD oil.

But CBD oil doesn’t always come from marijuana. Sometimes, it’s extracted from hemp plants, and many health professionals say the difference between the two is negligible, if any at all.

“It’s like getting vitamin C from orange juice versus getting vitamin C from a grapefruit — it’s still vitamin C; CBD is CBD whether it comes from hemp or marijuana,” Dr. Shivani Amin with Green Health Docs in Frederick, MD, told Popsugar.

So CBD oil may not get you high, but it can help you fight pain and discomfort, ease insomnia, soothe anxiety, and can even help with acne. That’s all thanks to CBD oil’s potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

In fact, CBD oil is such a versatile compound that This Is Us actress Mandy Moore uses it to rub on her feet before slipping into a pair of heels. She says that because it’s a strong anti-inflammatory, CBD oil helps keep foot-swelling and pain at bay while wearing them.

If you want to get creative with CBD oil, you can add it to a cocktail. Even better, if you’re in Los Angeles, you can head over to the trendy, vegan Mexican restaurant Gracias Madre for a CBD-infused alcoholic snowcone. (Um, I think we just discovered our new favorite summer-time treat.)

You can buy CBD oil on Amazon or at your local health foods store.

So what do you think? Ready to add a little CBD oil into your life?

Stay healthy,
